Fifth grader comforts shelter dogs by playing soothing piano for them
By Mike-Ross

The stories about young individuals volunteering at animal shelters never fail to warm our hearts. Their acts of kindness and generosity serve as a beacon of hope for future generations.
Recently, a shining example of this emerged when a young boy discovered a remarkable way to aid the pets at his local shelter, blending his love for animals with his musical talent.
Meet Yuvi Agarwal, a 10-year-old from Houston, Texas, who has always displayed a remarkable flair for music. His passion for the art began at an early age, with his love for music blossoming around two or three years old. By the age of four, he was already playing the piano, and at five, he delved into the world of drums, showcasing his musical prowess and dedication to the craft. In a heartfelt interview with KHOU 11, Yuvi shared his love for music and animals, unveiling his inspiring journey to make a difference in the lives of sheltered pets.

Yuri plays piano and guitar for the dogs, and the program has been a big success. Houston Pets Alive wrote that Yuri’s music helps “our dogs get ready for nap time with some easy listening.”
The fifth grader told KHOU that the dogs are soothed by the music and a few of them even “sing along” by barking.
Yuri’s school and his parents were both proud of his initiative and desire to help these furry friends: “we’re really proud of how he came up with this whole concept of Wild Tunes,” mom Priyanka told KHOU. “He came up with the name, he came up with the design.”
Yuri says he hopes to expand the program nationwide and have more and more people play music for pets at their local shelter. His mom said the shelter is planning to hold a holiday concert to raise money.
