Now this is a sign of a man who loved his job. After 28-years of being on the Salem City police force, Sgt. Douglas Hogate, Sr. was finally able to retire. However, he wasn't leaving full of joy as many others usually do. In fact, he loved his career so much - that the announcement of his retirement left the officer emotional.

In the video, we have the chance to see Sgt. Hogate as he receives this message. He is sitting in his squad car when a voice is heard over the speaker (who just so happens to be his son Douglas Hogate Jr., who is a dispatcher!). It says, "It is a great pleasure to announce that as of 1800 hours on this date - after 28 years of service, my father Salem City Police Sgt. Douglas Hogate, Sr., Badge #612 is retiring and giving his final Code 3."

While listening to his final radio message, the retiring Sergeant places his glasses on his head and wipes his face. His son then goes on to call his Dad, "the greatest man I know." Wow, talk about a tear-jerking send off! Be sure to watch this clip to get a real sense of how much this officer loved his career!
