Students Are Told They Can’t Recite The Lord’s Prayer, React In A Way That’ll Make You Proud
One of the most amazing things about young people is that it is almost impossible to stop them from doing what they want. They are stubborn and full of energy. And that’s exactly what these Ohio graduating seniors showed the world when they decided to stand and sing “The Lord’s Prayer” during their graduation ceremony at East Liverpool High School.
Although atheists and liberal groups keep cracking down on Christianity in schools, these students decided to go forward with a tradition that has been in practice for more than 70-years at their graduating ceremony. And liberals and anti-Christian groups were outraged…
Because of the heat and legal threats, the high school officials nixed the song from the ceremony. The Freedom from Religion Foundation said the song promoted religion and violated the U.S. Constitution’s derivative for the separation of church and state America was founded on.
“It was a decision made because we don’t have a lot of money and we’d rather hire teachers than pay lawyers,” school board president Larry Walton told a local NBC News affiliate.
The graduating seniors were not happy about that. They wanted to sing the prayer as their fathers and grandfathers had done before them.
Because the school officials did not have the power to stand up to the FFRF, the seniors decided to take matters into their own hands.
Although the officials did not have it planned, the students stood up at their graduation and recited the Christian prayer much to the atheist organization’s dismay.
Just after the class valedictorian welcomed everyone to the graduation ceremony, the students rose up in their seats and began the prayer with “Our Father who art in heaven.”
“It was totally spontaneous, apparently something the kids wanted to do. I had no knowledge of it. The crowd seemed to support it,” East Liverpool Superintendent Melissa Watson said.
Robert Hill, the father of Bobby Hill, who graduated in the senior class during this revolutionary moment, said he was proud that his son stood up to the meddling organization that seems to be trying to take Ohio’s religion away from them.
“I’ve always taught my two boys to stand up for what you believe is right,” Mr. Hill said. “The same lesson my parents taught me. It doesn’t matter if it’s over religion or something else – take a stand.”
Since the high school seniors decided to do this against the school official’s wishes, it is unclear whether or not the FFRF is going to press charges. Since the students violated the U.S. Constitution and pressured any non-Christian students to recite the prayer, the organization might file a suit.
But should students be able to practice their Christianity at school? Are these organizations taking things too far?
