Young Boy survives terrifying shark attack, leg amputation required to save his life
By Mike-Ross

Jameson Reeder Jr. was snorkeling at Looe Key Reef when an 8-foot bull shark approached and bit his leg in a terrifying attack.
In a state of shock, the then 10-year-old boy was able to float away. His family rescued him from the water and applied a tourniquet to his leg. Fortunately, there was a nearby boat with a nurse on board.
Jameson was flown to Miami Children’s Hospital by helicopter. According to his Uncle Joshua Reeder’s Facebook post, the boy was taken into surgery right away. “They had to remove/amputate from just below the knee to save his life as it was not operable from the damage the shark had caused,” Joshua Reeder said. “They said the shark made the decision for him and wasn’t anything they could do to save it.”

In this trying time, Jameson’s Christian faith has been a great source of comfort for him and his family. Noah, Nehemiah, and Eliana sang “Jesus Loves Me” as the helicopter took off to take Jameson to the hospital. “Jesus was going to save me,” Jameson said on the way to the hospital.
A GiveSendGo page was created to help the family financially. It has so far raised more than $64,000. Jameson had another surgery to clean up the area around his knee and ensure there was no infection. Jameson will turn 11 in a few weeks.
