Samantha and Taylor had found the ideal wedding location in Mexico, where they had gotten engaged. Unfortunately, Samantha’s world came crashing down just as they were about to finalize the contract.
Samantha’s mother, Kathy, learned that her multiple sclerosis was progressing and that she would be unable to travel. Samantha and Taylor changed their minds right away and decided to have their wedding in the United States. However, Kathy was rushed to the hospital the night before they signed the contract for their new venue, her condition worsening.
Samantha quit her job and relocated closer to her mother in order to care for Kathy. Meanwhile, she began researching last-minute weddings. She was willing to marry Taylor in a backyard or a courthouse as long as her mother could be present. That’s when Samantha discovered TheKnot.com’s annual Dream Wedding contest.
Samantha entered the contest and submitted her story to The Knot, and she and Taylor were surprised to win! The prize was a wedding day with all expenses paid… but the surprise was far from over.
Samantha and Taylor had a specific song in mind that they wanted their wedding band to play for their first dance. Canaan Smith’s “Love You Like That” was a beautiful and perfect song.
“We chose a song that’s very catered towards us as a couple… not one of the traditional first dance songs,” Samantha said.
But, just as the band was about to start playing their special song, they abruptly stopped. The lead singer stopped and asked Samantha to see who was standing behind her.
