She slides paper towel through a car window to show an easy life-saving trick you should know

Janette Fennell is the founder and president of the Kids and Cars safety organization.
Fennell created a video to share several little-known car safety tips for families, here’s her 5 tips:
Power Windows: Fennell wants you to check your automatic/power windows to see if they have a feature called auto-reverse. The feature will detect an object and go back down if it senses something. Use a paper towel roll to see if your vehicle has the auto-reverse window feature.
Break Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI): This feature doesn’t allow the driver to put the car in gear unless a foot is on the brake. So, make sure the shift lock release is enabled for your vehicle’s gear shift.
Carbon Monoxide Detector: Cars are becoming more efficient, and in some models, you don’t have to use a key to start your vehicle. Sometimes, the vehicles are so quiet you could forget it’s running. When the driver gets home and pulls into the garage, it wouldn’t be surprising if they forgot to turn the engine off. If the driver pulls the car into a garage, there’s a huge risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Fennell suggests having a carbon monoxide detector in your home, and maybe even near the garage.
Rescue Me Window Breaker: The tool has a seat belt cutter and, of course, a window breaker. The tool shatters the glass almost instantaneously, which could really come in handy in certain life-threatening situations.
Trunk Release: If your vehicle is a 2002 model or newer, your trunk should be equipped with a trunk-release tab. Check to see if you trunk has a release, it should glow-in-the-dark.
We hope you never have to use these tips, but it’s always smart to be prepared for the unknown.
