Stop Heartburn In Its Tracks Using These 5 Home Remedies

After eating a particularly tasty meal, you sometimes get a burning sensation in your chest. You feel as if your food is backing up into your throat and you're highly uncomfortable. You're suffering from heartburn.

Acid reflux -- or heartburn -- is miserable. The symptoms worsen in the evening and often when lying down. The joy of eating can soon disappear as you fear you will be paying for the meal within a few hours. Find relief and fight heartburn at home with the five easy home remedies listed below.

1. Baking soda. Baking acts as an antacid, neutralizing the acid in the stomach. To relieve heartburn, Healthline says to mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water. Slowly drink the solution to prevent yourself from swallowing extra air and creating a new problem in the process.

2. Chamomile. According to WebMD, when taken as a supplement or brewed as a cup of tea and consumed, chamomile may provide some relief.

3. Gum. Most don't think of grabbing a stick of gum to solve their heartburn woes, but WebMD shares how chewing gum triggers salivary glands. Saliva acts as a natural buffer to stomach acid. To reduce chances of tooth decay, chew sugar-free gum.

4. Ginger tea. Ginger is another herb that soothes the stomach. Medical News Today recommends drinking ginger tea with some honey to help combat the heartburn.

5. Wardrobe. The Mayo Clinic gives many practical tips for fighting heartburn, one of which is wearing loose-fitting clothing.

Be sure to carry gum in your pocket or purse, and don't shove yourself into an outfit that's too small. By being smart about how you fight heartburn, you can enjoy your meals once again.
