Mama Elephant Keeps Digging And Digging, Over 11 Hours Later, Something Crawls Out Of The Hole

When an elephant in India began digging, bystanders weren’t clear initially what she was doing. She appeared in distress as she continued to dig, staying focused on the task for a full 11 hours. Her goal was important to her and it was clear why she didn’t give up on the task: her baby had fallen in a well and was trapped.
Mothers share a special bond with their children and this isn’t any less true in the animal world. Rather than carry on without her baby, the mother elephant went to great lengths to try and save her child. Her love for her little one was apparent in the great efforts she took to free the baby from the well.
The baby had become trapped in the muddy conditions and when the mother attempted to dig the little one out, she accidently put more mud on top of the animal. She was clearly distressed over the situation, as she began digging at 8 p.m. and continued through 9 a.m.
Villagers nearby heard her cries and came to help, but found that they were unable to assist with the digging. As one person noted on a YouTube video of the event, they were advised by authorities: “Don’t come near the elephant. Please move back. The mother may lose her calm and it could be fatal for you. Please move back.”
Spectators finally assisted in the best way they were able, bringing a truck full of bananas to distract her and then working quickly to remove the soil and help free the baby.
The villagers then moved out of the way so the mother could help her baby out of the ground with her trunk.
Jitendra Tiwari, who filmed the situation and assisted with the rescue, explained: “We chopped off a few banana trucks and put it near the well so that the mother elephant moved away for sometime. The plan worked and we used the time remove the heap of sand deposited near the well that was making it difficult for her to rescue the baby.”
Many people who commented on the video remarked how a mother’s love goes beyond just humans, as one person noted: “This is not surprising that she would fight for her child for 11 hours — she’s a mother! I think any good mother would do that for their baby(ies).”
Another commenter agree, writing: “That’s a mother’s love. God bless her and all other animals” and another person added, “A mom’s love is something powerful!”
Others remarked how it was nice to see humans give her a much needed hand, with comments including: “So happy her baby is safe and the villagers helped her out too. Truly amazing” and “Great things happen when good people cooperate together to achieve a good goal. The story was really awesome.”
One commenter shared that this was an “inspirational and cute story,” adding, “it’s truly amazing what some mothers will do to help their children. Also, it’s nice to see humans helping other creatures in need. If only all humans felt as altruistic towards other creatures, all the time.”
