Homelessness is a very serious epidemic in America. Hundreds of thousands of people live on the streets or in shelters every single day, with no idea on how they will be able to get their next meal, new clothing or even where they can lay their head.
So once employees at one Little Caesar's pizza restaurant learned that a homeless man was going through their dumpster every night after they closed, they made a firm decision. Instead of kicking the man off the property or calling the police, they offered him something incredible...
Employees at the popular pizza chain had regular interactions with the homeless man over the years. He would cautiously approach their garage bin when he thought no one was looking, rifle through the food scraps and take anything he could eat. Each time a staffer tried to approach the man or offer him something to eat, he would hurry away with cheeks red from embarrassment.
After months of trying to help the man, staffers posted a note in the window that read:
"To the person going through our trash for their next meal, you're a human being and worth more than a meal from the dumpster. Please come in during operating hours for a couple of slices of hot pizza and a cup of water at no charge.
No questions asked."
The staffers didn't have to offer anything to the man, but felt deep down in their souls he deserved more than dirty, spoiled pizza scraps. Now he has the chance to eat every meal in peace - if he choses to do so!
Even though the sign was a great gesture, it's not the only thing this specific Little Caesar's local does to help feed the needy.
At the end of each night, the employees gather the leftover pies and deliver them to local homeless shelters. They know there's no reason to toss perfectly good food when so many people in the world need it!
We are all human beings - and no bottom line should ever stop us from caring for one another.
