Breaking news and health warning! A nationwide disease outbreak has now hit all 50 states in our country. Information is now being spread about this disease and what the masses should be on the lookout for.
CBS reports that Lyme diseases have been discovered all around the country. This disease is carried by ticks and can be spread to others. It has become a serious issue as it has been on the rise for the past few weeks.
"Quest Diagnostics has released their findings of over six million blood tests taken over the last seven years. The New Jersey-based clinical laboratory says cases of Lyme have exploded in unusual areas like California and Florida. Lab workers believe ticks are finding it easier to survive in new regions and spreading diseases to unsuspecting residents," reported CBS.
So many people like to attend and participate in outdoor activities in the summer. Many enjoy to camp or hike while others choose to spend the outdoors with their loved ones However, even coming in contact with the outdoors is exposing people to the potential for ticks to infect them with this disease.
“Our data show that positive results for Lyme are both increasing in number and occurring in geographic areas not historically associated with the disease,” researchers wrote in the July 30 press release. “We hypothesize that these significant rates of increase may reinforce other research suggesting changing climate conditions that allow ticks to live longer and in more regions may factor into disease risk.”
If detected early on, Lyme disease can be treated using antibiotics. However, if it gets to a critical stage then it can leave some major complications on the nervous system. Be sure to wear protective clothing when outside and always check yourself, and your pets, for ticks.
