If you have never lost a sock, bobby pin or something else while doing laundry, it is clear that you are not from Earth. This may seem impossible and it leaves many confused but somehow the socks that we favor so much always end up alone, never to see their twin again. This can be a frustrating thing, however today we are telling the story of one home owner that may have unlocked the secret behind all the missing socks.
Cathy Hinz and her husband manage a trailer park property in California. One of their properties contained a washer that, “just was not working properly.” So she sent her husband out to investigate exactly what was up with the machine.
Sometimes it can be a quick fix, but everything that he tried didn’t fix the problem at all. He decided the best course of action was to take the entire thing apart, as men often do! But what he found inside the bottom panel of the washer is stunning.
“Socks, underwear, a credit card… and that is just the bottom of the machine,” Cathy recently told BoredPanda. “When he removed the water pump that removes the water from the machine, he found about $7.00 in change.”
Her post went viral when it was shared by thousands of people on Twitter, many including hilarious memes along with them.
“Soooo, I no longer feel like a crazy person for losing random socks…” said Sarah Rose to her Twitter following of around 8,000. The tweet went viral almost immediately and has now been retweeted over 25,000 times.
“25 years he has been doing his job, and for 25 years he has been working on appliances,” Cathy continued. “But NEVER have we seen this!”
It wouldn’t be surprising if other washing machines also were having this issue, so if yours starts acting up it might be worth a look. You never know what you may find, but make sure that it won’t invalidate your warranty or damage your washer in any way.
These days, appliance shoppers don’t get nearly as good of a product as they did 40 or 50 years ago. Appliances are now built to fail, because these companies make far more money if you have to buy a new product every 4 years rather than every 25.
It is important when shopping for an appliance to consider the warranty. You want to ensure that you can return the product if it malfunctions, no matter what. This is an investment in convenience, and you don’t want to be back in the store a few months later with the same issue.
“So next time you are missing socks, just remember! That washing machine might just be hungry!” Cathy said.
“You’re gonna make me go downstairs and TAKE APART my washer now,” one commenter joked.
“I’m gonna show my mother this so she can get out of my face when I wear mix-match socks,” said another.
One solution to this issue would be to wash your smaller items inside of a wash bag. It’s far more convenient on the back end as well, as your socks are already separated and ready to match – unless that isn’t your thing of course!
