Grandpa Gives $2000 To Walmart Cashier, She Doesnt Accept It And Gives Major Warning To Others (Video)

A smart store employee decided to come help a kind old man in a major way, as a scammer tried to prey on this grandpa and con him out of a huge amount of money. It wasn't gonna happen on this day, scammer. As Cecil Rodgers, a grandfather from Cincinnati, Ohio, had a helpful Walmart employee looking out for his best interests. Rodgers was getting ready for the Christmas holiday and received a phone call from a man claiming to be one of his grandsons. Rodgers told WCPO News: “A voice comes on and says, ‘Papaw, this is your oldest grandson. I’m in trouble.’”
The man claimed that he had been in a car accident and needed money, as Rodgers explained: “He said, ‘I hit a woman’s car and she was seven months pregnant. And they charged me with drunken driving and I’m in jail.’”
The man who claimed to be Rodgers’ grandson then handed the phone to someone he said was a lawyer. The “lawyer” explained that $2,300 was needed to pay bail and get his “grandson” out of jail.
Rodgers was instructed to go to Walmart where he could transfer the money to another Walmart location near where his grandson was in jail, so he went to an ATM and got the cash, taking it to the store to complete the transfer and help his family member who he thought was in need. He was also told not to tell anyone about the transfer.
That’s when cashier Audrella Taylor swooped in to help the man, as she was suspicious after hearing Rodgers’ story.
She explained: “He said something about somebody was locked up in jail, he got a call, and he needed to come in to send $2,000.” Identifying the possible scam, she refused to allow Rodgers to transfer the money, as she explained: “I said, ‘Well, I am going to refuse the sender. I’m not going to let you send that money because I think you’ve been scammed.’”
She advised the man to call his children and grandchildren to confirm there had been a car accident at all. He found out that no one had been in an accident nor had they been arrested.
Walmart store manager Dominic Gross noted, “We’re very proud of Audrella and all of our customer service associates that helped.”
Needless to say, Rodgers was thankful Audrella didn’t let that transfer go through! It’s definitely a good reminder to be cautious of others with ill intent.
Many weighed in on this the story, with one Walmart employee conveying her experience with saving people from being scammed: “8 out of 10 years I’ve been employed at Walmart I’ve been a money center cashier and it is our goal to protect our customers against fraud, you guys wouldn’t believe how many people we’ve saved money for simply by asking them heartfelt questions; good thing we have the knowledge and experience to help you in any way possible!!!! Please be aware of all the scams and remember if something sounds too good to be true then maybe it is!”
