Popular SCAM Returns, Stealing THOUSANDS Of Dollars From People Across The Country

Years ago, ‘Secret Shopper’ scams were very popular. The victim of the scam would receive a large check amount in the mail (typically thousands of dollars) and was instructed to use it to purchase multiple gift cards.
After the gift cards were purchased, photos of the front and back of the cards would be sent via email. Then, the shopper would get to keep the leftover amount from the check (usually a few hundred dollars).
According to Pix11, this scam is arising again, but under a different name: Secret Surveyors.

The Secret Surveyors scam follows the same model as the Secret Shopper scams, but appears to be much more legit. The mailed check from the scammers resembles a cashier’s check from an actual bank that exists, which banks will clear the deposit initially.
In March of 2017, a family received an offer in the mail with a $2,400 check asking them to purchase 20 iTunes gift cards at $100 each and send pictures to a designated email address. The leftover $400 would be theirs to keep.
However, the check is actually counterfeit, which would leave the victim responsible for paying back the full $2,400 amount once the bank determines the check is not real.
Thankfully, this family reported the incident to police, but others are being victimized around the country. Unfortunately, finding the scammers is near to impossible as they are most likely from a different country.
If you receive an offer like this in the mail, do not participate and report to the police immediately.
