Nobody Knew What Boy Hid In His Shoes For Months, Then 3 Teens See It
By Dreamer
Every day for months, a Texas teen went to school with a secret in his shoes that nobody knew he was hiding until three teens happened to see it. The kid mostly kept to himself until his silence was broken on the last day of school before Christmas break when his classmates surprised him with what they knew.
J.R. Gilbert is a student at Somerset High School and mostly blends into the others who have seen him, but they didn’t know him by name until three teens on the school’s team brought specific attention to him. Although Gilbert has special needs, that’s not what the athletes were focused on as much as they were with what was amiss about his shoes that they realized he had been hiding since the start of the school year.

Student-athletes Roger Villegas, Salvador Solis, and Martin Ramos gathered everyone at Somerset high together in a classroom before sending someone to go get Gilbert. The boys saw the shoes that the special needs teen were wearing were unusually small for his tall height and didn’t want him to go on break without giving him a special Christmas gift. Gilbert is a size 13 but had actually been wearing a size 10 shoe since the start of the year, which had to be incredibly uncomfortable, although he never complained.
The three thoughtful kids bought him not just one new pair of shoes, but two sets of sneakers in his right size and presented them to Gilbert. When the boy, who has probably felt anonymous on campus all these months, saw that these kids had gone out of their way for him, he couldn’t control his excitement. It was probably the first time, in a long time, that he had gotten a gift, which was bigger than just the two pairs of shoes — everyone in the room that day was his friend and there for him.
These three boys weren’t told to do something for this kid as a “project” in kindness, they were raised right to have seen the need for themselves and thought to do something about it on their own. It was later found out that Gilbert was wearing his grandfather’s shoes, and although his parents had tried to get him some that fit, he refused to wear them until these students gave him these sneakers. He didn’t just desperately need a new pair of shoes, he needed a friend and got a whole school full of them because of what these student-athletes did for him.
