Man Who Visited Same Bar For Years Tells Server What He’s Been Hiding, Leaving Him In Tears

For four years, Jessee Gutierrez has been behind the bar at Texas Roadhouse and gotten to know a few of his regulars through casual conversation. But one rather quiet man who went to the restaurant’s bar for years without saying much, came in this week and put something in Jessee’s hand, then offered an unusual explanation for it, leaving the server not knowing what to do.
Jessee often tries to engage his regulars in conversation to make their time at the Odessa, Texas barbecue chain enjoyable. He’s heard a lot about his customer’s lives over his shifts, but it wasn’t until this week that one unassuming man, who has always kept a spot at the bar warm, shared something with him that took the server by complete surprise.

Right in the middle of an otherwise average shift, Jessee was wrapping up the quiet customer’s order, and he handed him his tab. When he provided payment to the bartender, he included a $1000 tip on a rather small check. But the gift to Jessee was more than financial when the customer told him why he did it.
“At the end of the night, when I paid him out, that’s when he put that tip on the thing and then I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know what to expect and when he was talking to me, there were tears in his eyes,” the stunned server told News West 9. The unidentified good Samaritan began to pour out to Jessee what has been on his heart while sitting at the bar regularly listening and watching the young worker.

“He was just like there’s something on my heart that’s telling me to do this for you,” Jesse began to explain of the man’s response when he asked him why he was gifting him such a significant sum of money. “He goes I see that you have a family, I see that you have a wife, a three month baby. He was like I wanna make sure that this makes it a lot easier for you in the next couple of months.”
The new father and husband couldn’t find the words adequate enough to thank this stranger for his kind deed. He said he’s beyond grateful for the generosity as it will be a huge help to his family over the coming months.
This customer didn’t just have a servant’s heart, he had listening ears and paid attention to other people’s lives, rather than just wanting to talk about his own. But then he used what he heard for good when he listened to his own heart and used his hands to help a stranger that didn’t ask for money. It’s amazing what can happen and how we can bless other people when we stop and listen.
