While some people have expressed their gratitude to these brave men and women directly, others are unsure of how to extend their thanks. 

The Greenlight A Vet initiative, which is sponsored by Wal-Mart, provides a simple answer. By switching a single visible light in your home (such as your porch light or in a street-facing window) to a green bulb, you show your support and appreciation for their service.
