FDA Elevates Pancake Recall to Highest Risk Level

Recalls often make headlines, and they can cover a wide range of issues. Recently, there was a recall of chicken products due to Listeria concerns. Now, another recall is in the spotlight—this time involving a popular breakfast treat. Villa Nueva Interservices LLC, a Florida-based company, is recalling their "Arepas LA Mejor" chocolate corn pancakes, sold in 25-ounce bags. While these pancakes are a delicious morning favorite, they pose a risk to those with milk allergies.

Unfortunately, some packages were mislabeled and hit store shelves without the necessary allergen warning. This oversight means that people with milk allergies might have unknowingly purchased and consumed the product. Although these items have been removed from stores, it’s still important to check your own pantry to ensure you don’t have any remaining packages. Stay safe and vigilant!

FDA Issues Recall on Pancakes — Do You Have This Product in Your Kitchen?
The allergen risk associated with this recall is extremely serious. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified it as a Class I recall, the highest level possible. This classification indicates a "reasonable probability" that consumption or exposure to the product could "cause serious adverse health consequences or death."

The affected product, distributed only in retail stores in south Florida, can be identified by a specific UPC Code: 8 37654 78238. Look for clear plastic packaging with a bright yellow label that says “Arepas La Mejor” on the front.

If you’re allergic to milk and have consumed this product, it's crucial to watch for symptoms that may require medical attention. Allergic reactions can vary, but common symptoms include:

Itching, rashes, or hives
Vomiting and/or diarrhea
Abdominal cramping
Swelling of the throat and vocal cords
Coughing or wheezing
If you have this product, you should either dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Stay vigilant and keep your kitchen safe!
