Tent Seen On Rural Property For Weeks But Officers Didn’t Expect What Was Inside

A tent popped up on some rural property in New Mexico, causing concern for neighbors surrounding the area. After it stayed there for two weeks with unusual activity starting to come from it, cops were called to investigate what was going on. When they peeled back the front flap, they were shocked to see what was happening inside.
Residents around the property in the town of Belen became concerned when someone pitched a tent behind Angela and Jacob Boggus’ house, which started to become an eyesore because of what some people described as some disgusting activity. As debris began collecting and rumors started swirling, the Boggus’ neighbors decided it was time to put an end to this concerning scene.

The couple has a 16-year-old son, who has some behavioral problems, but the neighbors weren’t expecting what the tent would be used for. The Boggus’ were tired of their teen disrespecting them and stealing from them, and no punishment worked to correct it. Having tried everything they could and failed, they decided that making him stay in the yard in a tent for thirty days would do the trick. Others in the area thought it was abusive and began reporting the family to police, who had an entirely different response.
According to KRQE, the parents were open about the punishment to judgmental neighbors who thought it was cruel and unusual. However, allowing a child to become a degenerate as an adult through passive parenting is truly the problem. The parents explained to police that the boy is fed at regular times throughout the day, allowed to use the bathroom in the house, and comes in each night at 9 p.m. to sleep, but he has to stay in the tent all day, every day, for a month.

“We’re not doing anything wrong here. We’re simply trying to teach our child a lesson,” Angela Boggus said. “If he doesn’t learn that now, it’s gonna be the whole world’s problem, not just ours, in a couple of years,” Jacob added. The police seemed to appreciate their approach, knowing first-hand what passive parenting does to kids who become menaces to society and their profession.
Despite repeat calls to the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office by neighbors who want the parents punished, officers said they see nothing wrong with what the parents are doing. “It’s not like he’s been banished out to the mesa a hundred miles away from civilization,” said Chief Deputy Gary Hall, who will not impose any charges on the couple.
The boy has already been in his makeshift prison for two weeks and will be there that much longer unless he completes five book reports on how to be a more respectable person, as his only chance of getting out of his punishment early. These parents are taking responsibility for their kid and his future so that he hopefully becomes a productive adult, rather than using his age to excuse his bad actions. If more people took discipline this seriously, there would be fewer issues in society and fewer inmates in real jail cells.
