Forgetting your keys can be a total nightmare, right? Whether it's your car keys, house keys, or padlock keys, they're like the holy grail of leaving-the-house essentials. But hey, we've all had those days where they slip our minds or mysteriously vanish into thin air.

But fear not! If someone's got a spare key floating around, you can whip up your own emergency backup with just a can lid – yep, you heard me right. Check out this tutorial by DaveHax and become the DIY key master in no time.

All you need is an old can lid, some tape, a lighter, and a sharp pair of scissors. It might not be as tough as the original keys, but it'll get the job done when it comes to unlocking padlocks. Just be careful not to go all Hulk-smash on it – we don't want any bending or snapping mishaps.

And hey, safety first! If you're giving this a go at home, watch those fingers and maybe slip on some gloves just in case. And while you're diving into the world of key hacks, why not check out more cool tricks like how to pop open a wine bottle with, you guessed it, a key!

How To Make A DIY Spare Key

Step 1:

Start by holding the top of the original key with pliers, then heat the bottom with a lighter until it has a black coating. Place it somewhere safe to cool it down.

Step 2:

Take a strip of tape and stick it to the key to take a print. Carefully peel it off and you have the exact copy of the key.

Step 3:

Take the lid from a can and lay it on the table. Take the tape with the print and stick it to the lid.

Step 4:

Using a sharp key, cut out the key. Make sure to do it accurately. Be very careful not to cut yourself on any sharp metal. If there are any black left on the original key, clean it off with a piece of paper.
