Beekeeper Uses Smart Tactics To Help Save A Small Colony Without Its Queen
By Mike-Ross

Erika Thompson of Texas takes her role in saving the bees extremely seriously, going above and beyond to share her passion for these vital pollinators through social media videos. One such video in 2021 showcased her fearlessness as she skillfully relocated an entire swarm that had made their home under an umbrella in someone's backyard.
Just four days ago, Erika shared another remarkable rescue video, but this time the situation was more critical. The colony's queen had tragically passed away, and the remaining bees were too few to be simply provided with a new queen. This challenge required Erika to think innovatively and come up with a unique solution.
Once she was able to move the mourning colony, she needed to introduce them to a larger one so they could merge. But doing this too quickly would be dangerous. Keeping this in mind, she brought them together but divided their “homes” with newspaper. The result? One big, new, happy family!
Watch Erika pull off this clever rescue mission in the video below.
