An entire community comes together for 12-year-old athlete after emergency leg amputation from a rare infection
By Mike-Ross

Brinley Hutson, a 12-year-old athlete from Kansas with a heart of gold, has her community standing behind her after she survived a life-changing ordeal.
It all started when she suffered a seemingly minor injury while playing soccer. She was kicked in the leg during her soccer tournament, then the same injury was later struck by a softball while the wound was still healing.
As a result, Brinley’s leg suffered an infection that wasn’t responding to antibiotics. After a few days, the injury became dramatically worse. As the infection continued to spread, Brinley’s life was in danger and doctors were forced to perform an emergency amputation.

When the brave little girl awoke from surgery, all she could think about was sports. “Her identity is an athlete,” a friend of the family said in an interview. “And that was the first thing she was concerned about when she came to after surgery was that she would no longer be able to play sports.”
As word of her ordeal spread, the community rallied behind Brinley. Watch the full news story in the video below to learn more about this incredible girl!
