Dad and daughter duo survive the exact same rare brain disorder 27 years apart
By Mike-Ross

Charlotte Misko, the 1-year-old daughter of Zeb and Bethany Misko, suffers from an incredibly rare brain disorder called craniosynostosis. Fewer than 1 out of 3,000 people suffer from this disorder, which unbelievably affects both Charlotte and her father!
Craniosynostosis causes the bones in an baby’s skull to fuse together earlier than expected. This can lead to a permanent cone-shaped head after birth. While a cone-shaped head on a newborn isn’t uncommon, it is unusual for the head shape to remain that way over time.

The disorder is so rare, the only reason Zeb and Bethany were even concerned was because Zeb had survived it! “Charlotte was originally born breech and the doctor said her head deformity would go away after a couple weeks,” Zeb said to People magazine. “Well, it ended up being a month, month and a half, and it did not go away. Because I had the same diagnosis at 5 ½ months old we wanted to consult neurology.”
Luckily Zeb was able to have the issue corrected through surgery, so he wasn’t surprised when doctors recommended the same treatment for Charlotte. “I had the same total cranial bolt surgery 27 years ago and we were like, ‘I’m sure that the medical technology and surgical procedures have only improved in those 27 years,’ so we felt very comfortable with the team at the Cleveland Clinic performing the same exact surgery, just 27 years later,” he said.
