5 and 7-year-old brothers, fend for themselves for days after mother dies at home
By Mike-Ross

Teachers in Talty, Texas, became increasingly worried after two of their young students, brothers who were ages 5 and 7, missed several days of class. No one at the school had heard from the family during the boys’ extended absence.
The two boys had been living full time with their 71-year-old foster mother, Connie Taylor, who was in the process of formally adopting them.
Without any communication from Connie, staff members from the Forney Independent School District became concerned and called the police.

Officers were dispatched to Connie’s house to check on her welfare. When the police arrived, the boys held open the door and pointed to their mother’s body. Connie had collapsed on the ground and the boys thought she had fallen asleep but couldn’t wake up. Sadly, she had passed away.
The boys attempted to use her phone to call for help, but neither knew the code to unlock the device. Together, the two brothers did their best to fend for themselves until authorities arrived.
