Horses are beautiful animals. They are capable of bonding with humans and exhibit their unique personalities. And as you get to know them, you'll find how comforting and calming they are. Horses also happen to be one of the most regal animals there is.
For Scott and Jackie Nelson, however, one of their horses is more than just a beauty. It was an incredibly special and rare horse.

The Nelsons own and operate the Down Under Colour Ranch in Florida. Through the years, they've had a wide range of Australian and American paint horses. It's one good reason why they are known in the industry and highly regarded as experts. They even join competitions where their horses bag rosettes.
One of the Nelsons' mares named Poka got pregnant and it was her first time ever. Although they were excited about what the outcome will be, the couple were pretty unsure of what will happen.

However, since they knew a stallion on the ranch named Chief would be the father, they had a feeling that the results would be special. They waited 11 long months just to see Poka's foal. And they made sure to give her the best food and area to wander around during the entire time.
On the 11th month of the pregnancy, Poka went into labor and the couple was ready to capture the big moment. They even had a camera with them. When they saw what Poka had given birth to, they were shocked and amazed.
They named the newborn Coconut. It had this white coat and dark markings which are considered as rare for horses. It had patches of dark spots on its head that look like a hat.

As it turned out, Coconut is a Medicine Hat horse. Back then, a lot of tribes consider such horse to be magical. They believed that the horses possess a unique ability to protect the people riding them during battles.
Apart from that, Medicine Hat horses also have this strong intuition that they are able to warn their riders of impending dangers. They are strong and exceptional game hunters which made them really in demand. People and tribes went to great lengths just to possess them, and that included stealing.
Thankfully, however, Coconut is safe and secure with the Nelsons. Given their experience and skills in taking care of horses from their own ranch, Coconut is sure to grow healthy and well.
Coconut is just an amusing creature to watch as you will see below. What a beautiful reaction from the other horses on their ranch.
