7-Eleven Owner Sees Kid Stealing, Decides To Take Matters Into His Own Hands Instead of Calling The Police

As a store owner, you have multiple things that you need to be aware of on a daily basis. You need to make sure your store is clean and your shelves are stocked. You need to make sure your employees are doing their jobs properly and that your store is safe and secure.

We imagine that one of a store owner’s biggest fears would be that a robber would target his store. We picture scenes from TV shows and movies where an employee or customer is held at gunpoint while the person behind the register gives the contents to the thief.

That’s probably a little extreme. There are also cases of general shoplifting where a customer tries to sneak an item or two out of the store in their pocket or bag.

Jitendra “Jay” Singh has been the proud owner of a 7 Eleven in Toledo, Ohio, for the past 5 years. Recently, one of his employees alerted him that a customer was acting suspiciously. The employee suspected the customer of shoplifting.

Jay reviewed his store’s security camera footage and saw that the customer was indeed taking items from the store shelves and hiding them in his pockets. Then, Jay confronted the customer.

The confrontation was captured on security camera footage, but it doesn’t play out like you’d imagine. While it starts with Jay telling the customer, a teenager, that he was going to call the cops if he didn’t take the stolen items out of his pockets, the customer’s response changed everything.

The teenage boy told Jay that he was hungry and that he was stealing food for himself and for his brother who was also hungry. Jay is a compassionate man who likes to help when he can. He dismissed the idea of calling the cops and instead told the boy to go back in the store to take some extra food like sandwiches and pizza to share with his brother.

This act of generosity surprised another customer in the store so much that he posted about it on social media. Cedric Bishop says that he wrote about the story on Facebook because, “I thought that was just beautiful because the young man could have had a record.”

Watch the video below to find out what Jay’s wife has to say about her husband’s generosity and what the couple plans to do to help the teenager in the future.
