Orphaned Baby Elephant Stands Alone: Millions Brought To Tears Moment Entire Herd Comes Rushing In

When a baby elephant loses his or her mother, it becomes very difficult to grow properly because "during their early years the calf follows the mother everywhere learning invaluable survival lessons from her and the rest of her herd," according to the Animal Channel. The baby elephant could get disoriented and depressed without a family to turn to. This was the major worry of the rescue workers of the Elephant Nature Park in Northern Thailand when they brought in Dok Geaw, an almost two-year-old elephant.
The little guy was injured AND lost his mother. The sanctuary was still prepared, however, to do everything they can to make sure that Dok grew up with love and affection. What they did not expect, though, was the herd of elephants at the sanctuary storming towards Dok. Somehow, they instinctively knew what happened to Dok and they wanted to show him that they were his family now.
The sanctuary workers were astonished! Suddenly, these adult elephants rushed towards the area where Dok was currently confined. Since Dok was injured, the sanctuary had to place him in a confined space where his injuries can be treated without interruption and he can still roam around freely. And when Dok heard the elephants rushing towards him, he cried out to greet them. That was all the elephants needed to know where Dok was exactly. They rushed to Dok and stuck their trunks between the gaps of the columns of Dok's space.
Their trunks reached out to pet Dok, who understood the gesture and stuck out his own in an appreciative gesture. It looks like Dok might have an easier time to adjust to his new life now because it seems the elephants are eager to adopt Dok into their families.
Dok Geaw was brought to the Elephant Nature Park by elephant rescuer Khun Kanjana Silpa-Archa from the Thai Elephant Conservation Center. According to her, Dok Geaw was orphaned at four months old and she has been working hard to find a family for Dok Geaw since. She reached out to Sangdeaun Lek Chailert, founder of the Save Elephant Foundation and Elephant Nature Park, and an elephant whisperer for help and she agreed to help Dok Geaw find his family at the park. Well, we already know what happened when Dok Geaw arrived at the park.
The Save the Elephant Foundation is dedicated to protecting and rescuing Asian elephants. They provide care and assistance to their rescued elephants through local community outreach, rescue and rehabilitation programs, and educational ecotourism operations. They also hope to expand self-sustaining eco-tourism operations that benefit local communities and ecosystems and, most importantly, create practical, positive reinforcement based elephant training and rehabilitation programs.
The foundation has several projects in place if people want to get involved and help. They already have three Elephant Nature Parks, and Haven in Thailand (Chiang Mai, Kanchanaburi, and Surin) and another one in Cambodia. They also a Dog Rescue Project in place, as well as their Forest Restoration Project. They were also able to open a chapter of Save the Elephant Foundation in Myanmar to help the elephants as well as improve the lives of the people in Myanmar.
