Recall Issued For Avocados In 6 States After Fears Of Listeria Contamination

There’s no doubt about it that avocados are delicious. We like avocado toast, guacamole, and this amazing baked avocado breakfast. The only hard part about eating an avocado is knowing when it’s ripe. Thankfully, we’ve learned the secret to figuring that out too.
Over the weekend, we bought some whole avocados with plans to make guacamole. They’re currently ripening on the counter, but if we really wanted them to ripen in 10 minutes, we know how to do that too.
If you have some avocados on your counter, before cutting into them to make your favorite recipe, check the stickers on them. If you live in California, Arizona, Florida, New Hampshire, North Carolina, or Wisconsin, and if the stickers on your avocados say “Bravocado,” return the avocados to the store where you bought them. Also, if you live in one of these six states (or bought avocados in one of these 6 states), and if you bought organic avocados, look for a sticker that says “California.” Return these avocados to the store where you bought them.
This recall is due to the chance that these avocados could be contaminated with listeria. Henry Avocados, which is located in California, has issued the following statement. “Henry Avocado is issuing this voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution due to positive test results on environmental samples taken during a routine government inspection at its California packing facility.”
So far, there have not been any reports of illnesses, but it’s better to play it safe. Listeria is especially dangerous for pregnant women, elderly people and anyone with a weakened immune system.
Phil Henry, the president of Henry Avocados, said, “We are voluntarily recalling our products and taking every action possible to ensure the safety of consumers who eat our avocados.”
Henry Avocados have been using the packaging facility in California since January. Any avocados shipped to stores from Mexico are not part of the recall even if they are from the company Henry Avocados.
In case you think you have accidentally consumed an avocado that is part of the recall, watch for these symptoms: flu-like symptoms, diarrhea, nausea, fever, muscle aches, confusion, loss of balance, stiff neck, headaches, tremors and convulsions. See your doctor. Sometimes medication is not required to treat mild cases of listeria, but antibiotics may be necessary.
