98-Year-Old Mom Moves Into Care Home To Look After Her 80 Year Old Son

There’s no denying the love between parents and their children. From the moment parents find out that they’re going to have a baby, the love starts and continues to grow. Major decisions like choosing a baby name are just the beginning. Once parents set eyes on their new bundle of joy, they are smitten and would do anything to care for their offspring. Apparently, that never, ever changes.

As children, it can be hard to see our parents grow older and sometimes need help we can’t provide. Some people choose to move to a retirement community (and there are some pretty amazing retirement communities out there).

What’s unusual is for a parent who is well past retirement age to still be caring for her son, who is also past retirement age. Philip Daniels, the manager at Moss View care center in Liverpool, U.K., says, “It’s very rare to see mothers and their children together in the same care home and we certainly want to make their time together as special as possible.”

Daniels is talking about Ada and Tom Keating. Last year, Ada, who was 98-years-old at the time, moved to Moss View, but not because she needed any sort of assisted living. She moved there to help her 80-year-old son, Tom, who moved in at Moss View a year earlier.

Tom, the oldest of 4 children, was the one who needed assistance. He never married and was very close to his mother. He lived in the same home with his mother for most of his life, so they are pretty much inseparable.

When Tom moved to Moss View, Ada knew she needed to move there too so that she could continue to take care of him, as any good mother would do.

Tom’s two living siblings, his sisters, Barbara and Margi, come to the retirement home frequently for visits.

Tom and Ada spend their days playing board games together and watching their favorite soap opera, the British show “Emmerdale.”

Philip Daniels says, “It’s very touching to see the close relationship both Tom and Ada share and we are so pleased we were able to accommodate both of their needs.”

We think it’s super sweet and somewhat incredible that Ada is still able to care for her son. Watch the video below to see the mother and son duo discuss their lives at Moss View.

Are you as close to your mother as Tom is to Ada? Do you know anyone who lives in an assisted living community?
