Plus, your cookies are amazing. Obviously. But there’s one big downside to this sweet gift: cookies tend to dry out when they’re shipped cross-country. You want these cookies to taste like they just came out of the oven, not like they were left to get stale for a few weeks. So how can you keep your cookies fresh and moist for their whole trip? With this one weird trick.
This trick is definitely not what you would expect, but as weird as it is, this tip is going to keep your cookies straight-out-of-the-oven fresh for days at a time. So it’s definitely worth a try, no matter how strange it may seem.
What’s the bizarre tip? Using tortillas in your package of cookies.

A little more random than you were anticipating, right? Cookies and tortillas don’t really seem like a match, especially not for shipping purposes. Don’t worry, we’re not suggesting you mail your cookies wrapped in flour tortillas. We ARE suggesting that you layer tortillas with your cookies when you’re packaging them.
The science behind the weird hack comes from the moisture in the tortillas; when in a confined space, like a cookie tin, the moisture in the tortillas will fill the air, keeping your homemade cookies incredibly fresh. This will keep them tasting as great as they did when they came out of the oven!
The best way to use tortillas in this way is if you use a cookie tin for your packaging; you can find these at your local dollar store or grocery store, no problem. Then take a stack of parchment or wax paper and trace the diameter of the cookie tin on the stack of sheets using a pen or marker.
Cut the circle out of the parchment paper so you’re left with two or three parchment circles. You can make as many or as few of these as you want, it just depends on how many cookies you’ve made.
Next, you’ll stack everything in the cookie tin. Start with a layer of parchment paper, then with a tortilla, then with another parchment circle. Finish the layer by stacking as many cookies as you can on top. Repeat if you have a larger batch.
Parchment paper will help to keep the tortillas in the tin for their moisture, without touching your cookies. And if your friend or family member loves tacos, they’re going to be in for an extra awesome surprise when they see you’ve thrown in a few tortillas for their next Taco Tuesday!
