Officer Wants To Inform You About A Safety Feature In Your Car That Most People Ignore

Car companies sell more cars when they can tell you that your ride is safe. People don’t want to put their children or themselves in danger while driving about their daily activities. While you cannot control other drivers on the road, you can control what you do. And as more car manufacturers continue to put more safety features into their vehicles, you can also feel safer knowing you have added protection.

But if you don’t understand how the new high-tech features work, they’re not going to do you any good. And police officers have noticed that many people are simply ignorant to a basic safety feature that comes standard in all vehicles. They want you to be aware of it so you can protect yourself and your loved ones.

Officer John Perrine is part of the Indiana State Police Department. He takes his job seriously and wants to do the public a service. Because he noticed that people often don’t know about this car feature, he took out his phone and recorded a video talking about it. And as he describes, when used properly, the safety feature has saved lives.

“What if I told you there’s a feature on every car that’s standard that’ll not only prevent crashes but also help prevent road rage?”

Officer Perrine certainly has my attention. We can have fewer crashes and less road rage? Yes, please!

He approaches his vehicle to show us where the safety feature is located. And as you can see, it is easily accessible to anyone sitting in the driver’s seat. He then indicates a safety feature that can save lives and reduce accidents. It’s a stick that juts out from the steering wheel, and it is called the “turning signal.”

As Officer Perrine goes about his lesson, he keeps a straight face despite the fact that everyone knows about this feature. However, not everyone uses. You probably see people failing to signal when they’re at stop signs or changing lanes on the highway. When people don’t do it, they put everyone at risk.

Because people don’t want to put down their coffee or cell phone, they fail to use this life-saving feature. And the officer points that out.

“It may require that you put down your coffee or cell phone, or whatever you have in your hands so that you can drive safely.”

Not only does the law require that drivers use their turn signal, it is also proper etiquette to use it. If you want to prevent accidents and road rage incidents, use your turn signal when you change lanes or make a turn.

“So please, use your turn signal,” Officer Perrine asks his video viewers.

With more drivers on the road every year, you need to do everything you can to keep safe. Accidents happen, but when you don’t use your turning signal, you could be putting yourself in unnecessary risk.

Follow Officer Perrine’s advice and use your turn signal when you’re on the road.
