These two Sisters had their twin babies and on exact same day, which is really a rarity with births. Their story is truly amazing but certainly not typical. Annie and Joby Johnson’s had a hard time as they made their way to becoming parents, seeing as though it took them 5 years to conceive successfully, paying for expensive procedures, surgeries and treatments. Annie wasn't able to get pregnant however
Annie stated: “When we were ready, we thought it would just happen. And when it doesn’t, you just feel so helpless.”
When their last round of fertility treatments failed, Annie’s sister, Chrissy, gave them the most selfless of offers and acted as her sisters’ surrogate. The couple decided to move forward with this plan and Chrissy was inseminated with Annie’s fertilized eggs. In just a few weeks, doctors announced Chrissy was pregnant with twins!
Then something completely unexpected happened — Annie found out she was pregnant as well, also with twins!
After all the years of unsuccessful fertility treatments, it seemed that once the stress was taken out of the picture with Chrissy as their surrogate, Joby and Annie got pregnant the natural way.
Annie told Good Morning America: “I was relieved, more than anything, that the babies were still developing. My husband, I think, was thinking more down the road of what we were going to do with four babies.”
To put this in perspective, consider this: there were two pregnant women and four babies, but only one mother. And one aunt, of course.
Joby noted, “I said to the doctor, we were ready for a new problem. We haven’t been able to get pregnant for five years, so if the outcome of this is two twin pregnancies giving us quadruplets, bring it on. If the worst problem he can give us was now there would be four babies, we were ready.”
As if this wasn’t all amazing enough, both sisters went into labor the same day, and both required Cesarean sections for delivery.
Chrissy delivered first and Annie was present at the birth of her twin boys, Charlie and Tommy. Then she delivered two twin girls, Grace and Haddie.
Annie explained: “My sister was carrying the two boys, and she delivered first, so I could be there in the room for her when she had them. Two hours later, at 9:30 a.m., I delivered the girls.”
Despite the twins being born to two different women, they are technically quadruplets. All of the babies were healthy at birth and suddenly, Joby and Annie’s household got super busy!
Annie noted, “We still can’t believe it sometimes,” adding of her sister, “We’re very thankful for what she did for us. We’re very grateful and thankful that they’re all here.”
Many people commented on the story on social media, noting how happy things turned out, with one person writing: “What a wonderful story, I am so glad all babies are healthy and the family is very happy… nice to see a family get along so well and be so close to each other. I wish them very well.”
