But the surprises can come as early as the start of the pregnancy.

Routine ultrasound appointments often become anything but. Sometimes parents learn that they’re not expecting just one child but two. Sometimes parents discover they’re not expecting twins but quadruplets. But for the parents in this story, their unborn baby gave everyone in the room another kind of surprise. While he had been very active, kicking at mom’s tummy day and night, his next move left the experienced medical professionals in awe. Not even they had seen this happen.
While ultrasounds used to be primitive tools that only a trained professional could decipher, now they are so technologically advanced that expectant parents can see 4D images of the unborn baby. Parents can get a sense of what their baby looks like. It is a wonderful advancement.
Lucy Bearley and her partner Stuart Barrett were excited to see their little one again during the 28th-week ultrasound. The unborn baby was the couple’s first child, so they were excited about every milestone – it didn’t matter how small it seemed.
Because the baby boy had been very active, no one was shocked when he proved hard to track down during the ultrasound. But when he finally did appear on the screen, the parents were stunned – and so were the professionals in the room.
Mom lied on her side during the ultrasound. This position proved to be the perfect one to catch all the unborn baby’s antics. And when they saw what the baby did, they rewound the tape. And there the baby was doing the impossible.
The child clearly waved at his parents. He wanted his parents to know how excited he is to come into the world. The technician who performed the ultrasound admitted that this was a one-of-a-kind situation. Despite her experience, she has never seen this done before.
Babies are often caught sucking their thumbs on ultrasounds. Others show the baby moving and kicking about. But this baby was waving. He wanted to greet the world. What a friendly and extroverted baby boy.
