Snow can be a beautiful and fun experience, especially if you have young children. Now although it may give your driveway a winter wonderland feel, it can be challenging when it comes to driving safely. Sure, our host wants to be able to get rid of snow quickly, but his real modus operandi is to displace that stubborn slush without hurting his back.
This guy really taps into a common concern of many people out there. Because, let’s face it, it’s rarely the spry, young 16-year old in the house that is completing this task; it’s their folks! And as most of you know, it can be positively brutal on that lumbar region.
So, before we dive into healthy shoveling form, let’s take a look at the best tool to use for the job.

As you can see, our host has tied a long piece of thin rope onto the shovel, starting just under the handle, and ending right above the base. When tying your own, be sure that you do so in a relatively loose manner, so that you can maintain a good grip while working out there in the cold!
The best part about this brilliant (and cheap!) hack is that the shovel really moves with you. When comparing traditional shovels, it’s easy to see that this one is truly in a class above the rest, simply because it has the ability to pivot and zig zag in different directions with ease. This technique really helps to speed up the icy task!
Not only does the rope give the shovel the flexibility to swivel, it also allows the user to dump snow much more easily. You see, if you are working to break up a thick bank of snow with a traditional shovel, you will eventually become “packed in” without any way to easily arrange of the excess cold stuff. This way, you have more control over the organization of your piles!
