She Assumed It Was Just A Normal Bug Bite. Now Her Family Is Preparing Her Funeral
By Dreamer

Health problems can appear out of the blue. And in many cases that can attack us in ways we just never expect. However, what took place with one loving mother is a serious warning to all of us. If you live near the woods or ever took a vacation in a wooded area were insect my be dwell, then the following story should concern you. Tamela Wilson fell ill out of the blue after ignoring “normal” bug bites that ended up being something totally extraordinary.
Ticks and other bloodsuckers may be annoying, but they can also pose a grave danger to your health. Unfortunately, the family of Tamela learned this fact the hard way when she passed away after ignoring the bites.

After complaining about frequent headaches, a light red rash, and pain throughout her body, she finally bit the bullet and scheduled a trip to her doctor. But when she showed up in the office, she learned that her symptoms were part of a condition that was much bigger than expected. Soon she was struggling to keep her grip on objects without shaking. After running some tests, doctors learned that her white blood cell count was dangerously low. But it took a long time before anyone realized that a bug was causing all her strife.
The family doctor sent Tamela to the hospital. Although the ER doctors treated her symptoms, they did not figure out the cause. She was deteriorating rapidly, and they wanted to stop that. But no treatment plans worked. Doctors sent her blood sample to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and waited for the results. They came back and shocked her doctors because it was something they had never before seen.
Tamela had contracted Bourbon virus. This rare tick-borne illness has no cure and is deadly. Doctors made Tamela comfortable and waited for her body to fight it off. But she couldn’t win. Three weeks later she passed away.

Because Tamela could have stopped the disease’s progression with swifter intervention, her daughter wants everyone to know the dangers of ticks and other parasites.
Although Bourbon virus is rare, Tamela’s daughter wants people to be cautious. She hopes that her mother’s sad story can inspire others to check themselves for ticks more frequently and know that these bloodsuckers can kill you.
After Tamela died from the tick-borne virus, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services refused to share any information about the tick-borne illness. This made Tamela’s daughter’s work even more important. Because the Missouri health department does not want to reveal statistics on how many more people were infected, they are under fire from lawmakers.
“They just basically stonewalled us on any information whatsoever,” said Republican Rep. Justin Alferman. “Them hiding under an extrapolation and weird interpretation of HIPAA isn’t going to fly with me. If they want to continue to do that, we are going to make painful cuts to bureaucracy and the individuals who are purposely obstructing information from coming forward to the public.”
What do you think about this rare tick virus affecting people in Missouri?
