In Loving Memory Of Aretha Franklin: This Number 1 Hit Helped Another Singer Become A Superstar
By Dreamer

News of Aretha Franklin's returning home to heaven shocked the world in only a matter of hours. The iconic signer was much more than just a beautiful singer with an angelic voice - she was also a devoted philanthropist, she was the first woman to be admitted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a vocal member of American society, and loving mother of four. Although she is not longer with us, we can remember her forever through her music for the rest of time...

Aretha was born in Memphis, Tennessee on March 25, 1942, to parents Barbra Singers (a homemaker) and Clarence Franklin (a Baptist minister). Her very first experience with music was when she would visit her father's church and sing with the choir. Without money for formal training, Aretha was left to learn the piano by ear and could correctly identify notes and pitches in songs! Unsurprisingly, Aretha was a certified artist at the early age of 18. She released her first single with Columbia Records and never looked back. By the end of her career, Aretha won 18 Grammy awards as well as a Grammy Lifetime Achievement and Grammy Living Legend award.

Sadly, Aretha passed away on August 16, 2018, surrounded by her friends and family. They released a statement shortly after her passing thanking Aretha's many fans, "We have been deeply touched by the incredible outpouring of love and support we have received from close friends, supporters and fans all around the world. Thank you for your compassion and prayers. We have felt your love for Aretha and it brings us comfort to know that her legacy will live on." Aretha quietly battled pancreatic cancer and remained strong until her final breath. She'll be remembered for her outspoken attitude, angelic voice and brilliant mind. Listen to Aretha sing with the late great George Michael below. She will be sorely missed!
