Sadly, in our society, scammers are taking over and people are becoming victims of these lurking thieves each and everyday. No matter if they prey on innocent people through email, phone call, or old school snail mail, they do not give up until they get what they want.
Scammers try to do anything they can in order to get you to say the wrong thing and steal your private information while making you believe its legitimate email or phone call.
If you get a phone call from the following area codes, you are strongly encouraged not to, one, answer the phone, and two, do not return the call back.
According to "Inc." author Joseph Steinberg, CEO of SecureMySocial, says that scammers will try various tactics to lure their victims in. Some will call numerous times and several times in succession or even hang up in hopes it peeks the caller's curiosity prompting a call back. Other reports say the exact same thing. Beware!
Other scammers will use a recording of someone requesting for help, or in need of serious medical attention. Steinberg says that scammers will do this via text messaging as well.
The following area codes listed below are ones you should steer clear of unless you can make for certain that you know the person on the other line.
264 — Anguilla
876 — Jamaica
268 — Antigua
758 — St. Lucia
441 — Bermuda
242 — Bahamas
246 — Barbados
767 — Dominica
664 — Montserrat
721 — Sint Maarten
345 — Cayman Islands
649 — Turks and Caicos
869 — St. Kitts and Nevis
868 — Trinidad and Tobago
284 — British Virgin Islands
784 — St. Vincent and Grenadines
809, 829, and 849 — Dominican Republic
473 — Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique
