Two Nurses Walked Around Walmart, Suddenly Hear Cries For Help

Jackie Nelson, a mother, left her home to travel to Walmart so she could run her routine errands in Nebraska. Along with her was her 8-month-old daughter Hazel. As they were out, something shocking happened to baby Hazel. Hazel was diagnosed with Transposition of the Great Arteries and Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, which are serious conditions that affect her heart and circulation.
Although her mother tries to do anything in her power to help baby Hazel with her condition, sometimes a crisis can happen randomly. And that is what happened during her trip to Walmart. Hazel experience a crisis in the store which ended up being cardiopulmonary arrest. She is lucky she was at the Walmart at the time of the crisis.
Two of the shoppers who witness the crisis just happened to be nurses. Mariah Thurman is a pediatric nurse and Deanna Berning is a trauma nurse. These women jumped to action without a second thought to help the lifeless child. The nurses commented that when they got to the baby she was blue and lifeless.
The nurses went into action performing CPR on the baby because mom was so panicked she was unable to help them, but it wasn’t necessary.
Thurman told reporters, “I started to kind of feel her pulse start to come back and flutter when I was doing CPR by myself, but I just kept doing compressions- because that’s obviously not a normal heartbeat- and you’ve got to get blood going everywhere.”
The baby was rushed to the hospital, where she spent a few days in the intensive care unit and was then released happy and healthy to go home. Mom, Jackie Nelson, realized that she had never gotten the chance to thank the women that saved her daughter in the midst of the chaos and panic.
Both nurses shared with reporters that they do not normally shop at that particular Walmart. It was chance that they were there that day and doing their shopping. It is one of those moments that the nurses and the mom attributed to fate because their skills and abilities were need at that Walmart on that day. Luckily for baby Hazel, fate was on her side that day.
Through the wonders of technology, she was able to find them again. The mom found the nurses via Facebook and was able to take baby Hazel to meet the women that saved her life. She was able to express her gratitude to these two women who helped her daughter without a second thought.
In a world where we hear about so much of the bad things that happen everyday, this is an example of the great things that people do. This is a showing of how people help one another in times of their most greatest need without a thought or a hesitation.
These are the types of moments in life that help to restore your faith in humanity. They are a testament that there is still good left in the world and that humanity is not corrupted by bad people doing bad things.
