She Cuts Fluffy Treat Into Individual Squares For A Dreamy Recipes You Have To Try

Marshmallows are (literally and figuratively) the glue of so many universally beloved treats. Rice Krispies wouldn’t be the sticky sweets we love without marshmallows holding them together, and what would Mallo Cups be without the “mallo”?!

Needless to say, we think marshmallows transform all desserts (and also non-dessert items, honestly) for the better. But how can you make marshmallows THEMSELVES better? It definitely doesn’t seem possible.

Well, there is a way — and your s’mores and hot chocolates will never be the same once you start making your marshmallows at home.

Marshmallows are already an ooey gooey treat that we all adore, but making them yourself just takes them to a whole other level. Homemade marshmallows are perfect to take to a campfire, a winter party or even to give as an impressive hostess gift.

In the video below, America’s Test Kitchen shows us how to make marshmallows right in our own kitchens! Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

Homemade Marshmallows

Ingredients

2 1/2 tbsp. gelatin 1/2 cup water 1/3 cup corn syrup 2 cups sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 2 tsp. vanilla extract 1/2 cup cornstarch 1/2 cup confectioners sugar

To get the full instructions for making this DIY ‘mallows, make sure to watch the video below! We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how easy this recipe is.

As if you needed more reasons to make these tasty treats at home, ATK mentions one very important benefits of homemade marshmallows: the lack of unhealthy, or even dangerous, additives. While there ARE some not-so-healthy ingredients to these homemade goodies (corn syrup being one of those, although this isn’t the high fructose kind) there’s nothing close to “Blue 1” in this DIY variety.

What’s more, these are so fun to make at home, especially if you have kids who are curious in the kitchen! You might make a little bit of a sticky mess, but let’s face it – that’s half the fun. And, luckily, this messy treat is easy to clean up after you’re done.

If you’re going to try this homemade challenge yourself, make sure to let us know what you think about this recipe and how it went for you! We know we’re looking forward to making these for year-round desserts and gifts!
