Couples argue. It’s like a rule of nature. Two independent people just can’t agree on everything. But some couples “argue.” And it can be an everyday occurrence. When this happens, it’s usually referred to as bickering. They go at it no matter how small the topic is and refuse to give up ground because they just want to be right. Sometimes these arguments hit hard and escalate into a fight. While punches aren’t being thrown, these fights between spouses can become so heated they can threaten the fabric of the relationship. That’s what happened when one tired man came home after a horrible day at work. Just eager for some peace and quiet, he got into the house and headed for his favorite recliner. But his wife was on top of him before he could even hope to relax. And before he knew it, he said the wrong thing and they got into a heated argument.
Because this type of thing kept happening, his wife grew so angry. She was through and simply walked out of the house, slamming the door as loudly as she could on her exit.
She didn’t come home that night. And the next day, she was still missing. She wouldn’t return her husband’s phone calls or text messages. She wanted him to suffer not knowing if she was alive or dead.
All of a sudden, the man realized how much he relied on his wife. Without the meals being prepared or the kids being taken care of, the burden of the household rested on his shoulders. And he was failing miserably at it all.
But eventually, he found a few minutes to sit at the desk and write a note to his wife. And he prayed that she’d be able to read it before it was too late.

Two nights ago, we had a huge argument. I was exhausted when I got home from work. It was 8:00pm and all I wanted to do was to lie down and watch the game…
I said, “I work hard all day just so you could play in the doll’s house all day.”
The argument kept going like that. I said terrible things to you that I can never take back… You tearfully ran out of the house, leaving me to take care of the children on my own…
I experienced the crying and the tantrums. I experienced having to run around so much all day that I didn’t even have a chance to shower…
I experienced feeling so physically and emotionally drained that I just wanted to sleep for 20 hours straight…
I get your exhaustion. I get that being a mother is all about sacrifice…
I get how challenging it is, being locked up and being forced to watch children…
I write you this letter not just to tell you that you are missed, but because I don’t want to go another day without telling you: “You are strong, doing an excellent job, and I admire you.”
This tribute from a man to his wife has been circulating the internet for some time. And it is a reminder that we need to step into another person’s shoes to really understand them.
