Woman Goes To Nail Salon; When They Notice Dark Line On Her Nails, They Warn Her Of Dangerous Meaning
By Mike-Ross

When it comes to our health, worrying about prevention is definitely better than worrying about the cure. Research shows that eating healthy and exercising are the two best ways to keep most complications at bay. But even those who spend lots of time at the gym and lots of money in the organic food aisle, one very simple thing often goes undone.
Simply put, most of us are not very good about regularly scanning the surface of our body for signs of anything out of the ordinary. Things like new moles, discoloration of skin, and rashes, are good indicators of a bad condition that is in the making. Catching these signs early could make all the difference in the world in saving your life.

Finding out about this first hand is a lady who recently walked into a nail salon for her usual appointment for a manicure, but walked out with some unsettling news.
Lisa Harrison Williams works in that nail salon and when she noticed that her client had a dark black line on her nail, she knew something was not right. Lisa, who recounted the incident on her Facebook page, recalls the client saying that:
"She had been going to the "NAILS" type salons for years ... She said as soon as she sat down---I need a color dark enough to cover this stripe."

All those nail salons had tried to add their two cents on why the dark black line existed in the first place. As Lisa put it:
"... Some said it was a lack of calcium. Some said it was hereditary. At least one had told her it was a blood blister."
Lisa however, had something different and more urgent to tell her client. She was worried it might scare her, as she said that the black line was sign for melanoma and that she needed to see her doctor as soon as possible.

According to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, melanoma is a type of skin cancer that is caused when the cells producing melanin start dividing uncontrollably. This is usually due to high exposure to UV light and sometimes even due to genetics.
The symptoms usually show up as discolorations on various parts of the body, including nails. These spots can change shapes, colors, or even bleed.

Lisa's client called her back to confirm that she indeed had melanoma that it had spread to her lymph nodes. This of course came as unfortunate news to Lisa, which is why she decided to share it with the rest of the online community, in the hopes of encouraging people to pay attention to their nail health:
"Odd changes in your nails can very likely be nothing to worry about! But sometimes it is an indication of a very serious disease. And please keep an eye on the nail beds---toes and fingers----of your elderly loved ones and your loved ones that aren't physically able to notice changes in the nail beds! Early diagnosis can make all the difference in the world!!!"
