Mother Wakes Up And Notices Her Daughter Is Missing. Suddenly She Hears Crying Coming From A Neighbor's Shed

A man with a long history of mental illness has been accused of kidnapping his female neighbor and hiding her in a shallow pit in his Ohio backyard.
According to Blanchester police, 45-year-old Dennis Dunn allegedly abducted the neighbor sometime before 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The young woman’s mother immediately reported her missing, according to PEOPLE.
Several hours after the mother called authorities, she reportedly heard the sound of a woman crying behind her neighbor’s shed.
Authorities immediately rushed to the scene and reportedly discovered an absolutely chilling sight when they arrived.
In a news release, Blanchester police said the woman was found “in a pit dug into the earthen floor of the shed.”
According to the release, the pit was about three-and-a-half feet deep and two feet wide. It was also covered in wood and “heavy objects,” police said.

Investigators later revealed that the woman was rescued just in time and rushed to the hospital, where doctors said she showed no obvious signs of physical trauma.
According to PEOPLE, Dunn was arrested around 8 a.m. on Wednesday and immediately charged with kidnapping.
It had since come to light that the woman Dunn abducted is somebody he has “known for some time.”
In October, the woman reported “harassing phone calls and text messages from Dunn,” though she did not want to press any charges against him.
Dunn is also said to have called police about five times in April saying he was hearing voices, leading authorities to believe he may need a psychiatric evaluation.
The Blanchester police chief has since announced that he believes Dunn’s increasing violence may be the result of a “failure” in Ohio’s mental health care system.
“It would appear to me that Mr. Dunn is in need of some sort of psychiatric treatment,” Chief Scott Reinbolt said in a news release earlier in April.
“Over the past several decades the State of Ohio has closed most of [its] inpatient mental health facilities, leaving few beds available for individuals who need inpatient care,” Reinbolt said. “Unfortunately, I am convinced that doing so has left individuals like Mr. Dunn without the care and treatment they need and deserve.”
“I was heartbroken when Dunn’s elderly father showed up at the scene this morning to apologize to us for having to deal with this son. I am angry at a state government that places dangerous, mentally ill people into our neighborhoods,” Reinbolt said in another news release after Wednesday’s events.
