He Squeezes Some Food Coloring Into a Cup Of Rice. Then Adds An Egg For a Stunning Transformation.

Between now and Sunday, April 16th Americans are expected to purchase upwards of an estimated 180 million eggs for dyeing and decorating purposes. The seemingly timeless tradition has steadily grown and spread across the world since it was first practiced all the way back in the 13th century. It’s easy to see why it’s so popular, decorating Easter eggs is just plain fun, and people of all ages enjoy it year after year.

There’s no one way to decorate an Easter egg, in fact there are all sorts of different ways to go about it. People use everything from store bought dye kits to Kool-Aid, nail polish, paint, glitter, silk scarves, dried flowers, and more. As inventive and interesting as many of these approaches are, they also tend to be quite harsh and unnatural, some even make heavy use of chemicals. The last thing any parent wants to do is expose their children to toxins, especially when you’re celebrating the holiday and making memories!

Which is why this easy and all-natural Easter egg dyeing method comes in so handy. It uses just two simple things, white rice and food coloring, to transform plain white eggs into beautifully colored ones! You may even already have everything on hand that you’ll need for this because the list is short with just three things; 1) hard boiled eggs, 2) dry white rice, 3) food coloring.

You will also need a couple of containers with either lids or some alternative type of covering, like Saran Wrap and elastic bands. Make sure to use cups that are big enough to hold an egg with enough room leftover for you to gently shake it around in. The directions for rice dyed Easter eggs are as follows:

1. Place 3-4 tablespoons of rice into a cup.
2. Drop a few healthy squirts of food coloring in the rice and mix it together well. (If you want to achieve either a darker color or a different one you can always add in more food coloring later)
3. Place an egg into the cup and secure the lid on top.
4. Gently shake it all around and at this point you should start to see the food coloring beginning to transfer from the rice onto the egg.
5. Remove the egg from the rice cup when you like what you see.
6. Set the dyed egg aside and allow it to dry off.

If you think that sounds way too easy, that’s because it is. There is no need to dissolve chemical tablets in vinegar or do anything beyond what is mentioned above. In the end you’ll turn out some beautifully dyed Easter eggs that are safe for your family to handle and eat since no chemicals or heat are used and the coloring is limited only to the exterior shell.

Best of all, children will love trying out this new egg dyeing technique. It allows them to be more hands on and involved in the creative process because they can experiment with the amount of food coloring they use and the shake times. Parents will find this enjoyable as well. It’s simple and affordable to do, and quick and easy to clean up, so try it out this Easter and enjoy!
