Nurse Is Feeding A Newborn Baby When Everything Suddenly Goes Black. Once She Wakes Up, He's Crying On The Floor

A new mom is suing a hospital in Canada after a nurse allegedly dropped her newborn baby on top of his head.
According to The National Post, officials at Quinte Health Care have announced that they are investigating the “unusual and unfortunate incident” involving a “very experienced, highly-qualified, great nurse.”
Mom Kelsey Bond says her son, Keiran Keller, was dropped by a nurse in the maternity ward on February 20.
“I received a phone call at eight o’clock in the morning saying that the nurse had fallen asleep feeding him and woke up to him crying on the floor,” said Bond.
The shocking call, according to Bond, came from the department manager.
“She said she was sorry … and that a pediatrician had looked at him and said he was fine,” said Bond.
“I was more or less in shock, so I didn’t really say anything,” the horrified mom continued. “I just kinda hung up.
“My husband (Kyle Keller) was losing his mind,” she added.
Although Senior Director Susan Rowe has not revealed the nurse’s identity, a hospital document does report that a registered nurse “was feeding baby on her lap, and she fell asleep.”

“Next thing she noted baby on floor, baby possibly slid down from her lap but mechanism of fall is unclear; Keiran cried, no documented loss of consciousness … Assessed by the pediatrician on call after the fall and no abnormalities were noted,” the document continued.
The incident reportedly happened just after 3 a.m., but Bond and her husband were not notified right away.
“They didn’t call me for five hours,” she said. “You’re supposed to be notified right away.”
“The nurse is not suspended; she has not been fired; there is no punishment for her,” Bond added.
After the whole ordeal, Bond says she begged the hospital to do an ultrasound on her baby’s head.
“It did look like his head was a little bit swollen and red on the left-hand side,” Bond said of Keiran. “I had a gut feeling that everything wasn’t OK.”
Because of what happened, Bond and her husband had Keiran transferred to another hospital, where he underwent a second ultrasound and a CT scan.
According to The National Post, the scan revealed a depressed fracture in Keiran’s skull and an acute subdural hematoma.
Although the hospital has since apologized to Bond and her husband over the accident, the nurse who dropped their baby has not been fired.
“An apology doesn’t fix what happened,” she said. “This is my child’s life.”
