All too often, the men and women who help keep life in our neighborhoods running smoothly go unappreciated. The police, the firefighters, the traffic guards, the custodians, and of course, the garbage men. Far too often, people take these hardworking professionals for granted.
But in one instance, a homeowner caught the moment his dog ran out to greet the friendly garbage man. Apparently, this is all part of the weekly routine. Every time the garbage man drives up to the house, the family’s golden retriever runs outside and gives the hardworking man a warm, hearty welcome.
This time the loving affection was caught on camera. And when you see how the dog reacts to the garbage man and how he responds, your heart will melt. This video is a must watch for you!
The video, which has been viewed more than 4.4 million times, has garnered a lot of praise from viewers and the public.
When it was uploaded in the middle of 2014, the homeowner Joshua Bryne, wrote as a video description: “Every week the garbage man takes time (2 quality minutes) to see my pup and say hi. Who said that nice people are hard to find.”
In the video, you’ll see the orange waste management truck pulling up to the green lawn. As soon as the worker steps out, the dog comes running to say hi. The garbage man offers the dog a little treat and then gives him a good rub down. The dog is in heaven!
After petting the dog, the owner and garbage man exchange a quick greeting and shake hands. While they talk, the golden retriever, who is named Shelby, keeps coming over for more attention from her best friend.

Not only is this a heartwarming video, Joshua opened up about his pup – who was a rescue from a kill shelter. He wrote in the comments:
“The Golden is named Shelby, she is a great dog that was a rescue from a kill shelter. She has been such a blessing in our lives since we got her from the Carolinas…Her mother was found in a Kill Shelter pregnant, she was a full Golden Retriever, she was born their with 4 other sisters. We took Shelby because she was the smallest. We are not sure what the father is, but we definitely know that she is Golden, I grew up in the country and we had many working dogs, and Goldens always seem to shined out as the family dog.”
