While on patrol in Wisconsin, a driver in a silver BMW sped by Officer Martin Folczyk who then swiftly pulled the man over. When he walked up to his window to ask for his license and registration, he immediately stopped and asked for something else when he saw what was around his neck.
The officer was working in the area around the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Although it’s typical to see students speeding onto campus to avoid being late for class, this traffic stop wasn’t the same as the rest. Folczyk immediately changed course when the driver rolled down his window and explained where he had just come from and what he was headed to do. The dash camera caught what happened next which has since gone viral for an incredible reason.

According to Fox4KC, this student was running late like others who had been stopped before him but was behind schedule for what was a first that Folczyk has heard in his career. The unnamed man said that he was in a hurry to get to an important school presentation and had stopped at his friend’s house on the way there for help with one specific thing. He had to wear a tie to his presentation but had never been taught how to tie one and was hoping his friend could do it for him. Unfortunately, the pal wasn’t home so he was late and now unprepared with an untied tie.
Folczyk didn’t ask for his driving documents. Instead, he asked for his tie so he could loosely knot it for him and slide it over his neck.
As he helped with the knot, he asked the driver to get his license and registration, then shocked the student with what he did with it. After handing him his prepared tie that he could simply slip on, he gave the guy a warning rather than a ticket, as well as an invitation to come to the police department after school so he could teach him how to properly tie his own tie.
The student thanked him and went off to class looking professional for his presentation, thanks to the help of this officer who decided that teaching this student a basic life skill as a man was more important that ticketing him for speeding. Folczyk’s patrol car dash cam caught their interaction as well as this simple lesson that this young guy had never been taught. It’s the small opportunities to help that are as important as this big ones, and this will be one that the student can use and will never forget.
