Woman Remodels Home, SHOCKED To Find 75-Year-Old Letter To Father Christmas In Her Chimney
By Dreamer

Whenever someone purchases an old home, any contents left inside are also acquired by the new owner. For one woman in Powys, Wales, she never could have imagined what she would find in an old chimney during renovations, much less for it to be 75-years-old.
Over 75-years-ago, Christine Humphreys wrote a few letters to Santa when she was only 5-years-old. It was a tradition in her family to send their Christmas letters up the chimney in their old playroom. Many years later, when Julia Pugh, the home’s new owner, found the old letters in the chimney, she was more than dumbfounded.

The 75-year-old letters.
One of the letters read, “Dear Father Xmas, Please bring me some nice toys and a hymn book. Age 5. Love, Christine.”
Quite a bit different from the extensive lists of today’s children, which often include many things like cell phones, Xboxes, and computers. Perhaps what is the most touching about these letters is not only how simple her requests were, but that the young girl had requested a book of hymns. As a Christian, I would like to believe that many children are still requesting such a gift, but I know that just isn’t the case.

The other letter requested for Santa to bring a dolly’s case, a box of crayons, and even some scissors – but it still doesn’t even compare to the lists Santa receives from today’s materialistic children.
“Seeing the request for such simple things like the hymn book and crayons made me think how materialistic we are today,” explained Pugh, according to Mirror. “I’m so pleased we did as we found the wonderful letters to Father Christmas from the little girl who lived in the hall with her family.”

Christine Humphrey is now 82, pictured holding her letters to Santa.
Miraculously, Christine Humphreys is now 82, and she was stunned to read the simplicity of her own letters from so many years ago. “I was flabbergasted to see the letters. I remember we were told to put them up the chimney in the playroom, I presume because it was not in use,” Humphreys explained, according to NY Daily News. “I get absolutely aghast with how materialistic we have become, especially at Christmas. We want more, more, more, and we are destroying ourselves and the world, which is very upsetting.” She continued, “Children now don’t appreciate things because they have more than they can cope with.”

Perhaps we should learn a valuable lesson from this humbling blast-from-the-past. Instead of teaching our children that Christmas is a time to ask for everything we want, we should focus our celebration more on honoring the birth of Jesus Christ. It wouldn’t hurt our children to give more, get less, and understand the true meaning of Christmas.
