This Powerful WWI-Themed ‘Christmas Truce’ Commercial Has Gone MEGA-Viral

A hundred years ago, during World War I, unofficial truces spread across the front lines of those fighting in the trenches on Christmas Eve in 1914. Stories from those who served are still told today.
A commercial released on Wednesday captures the historic day, when troops laid down their weapons in what would become known as the “Christmas Truce,” and it’s been setting the Internet on fire.
According to TheBlaze, the U.K.-based supermarket chain Sainsbury’s released the video on YouTube, and it has nearly five million views in just a couple of days.
The beautifully directed commercial features soldiers cautiously leaving the safety of their trenches and greeting each other on the battlefield. Just prior, they had been fighting a fierce battle, but let it go to play a game of football — or as we call it, soccer — before walking back to their trenches and pulling out the gifts they had exchanged.
Comments of praise from YouTube users are flooding the extremely emotional ad’s post.
“This is just such a good ad…..i have to share!!!
The unexpected can happen if we allow it to..so powerful!” a user wrote.
Sainsbury’s worked with the Royal British Legion to create the moving commercial, and the grocery chain says that they’ll donate the proceeds from each chocolate bar featured in the commercial to the organization.
