After Spending A Month Trapped In A Well, This Blind Dog Finally Gets A Christmas Miracle
By Dreamer

A blind dog, now named “Christmas,” spent at least a month down a deep, narrow well in Bosnia before rescuers found him. People believe he wandered the field searching for food when he fell down a 26 feet deep well, but sadly, it’s also possible he was purposely dumped by a former owner.

"The dog had been there for months and they don’t know if he was thrown in, or if he fell in," Laura Simpson, founder of the Harmony Fund in Holden, Massachusetts. "We’re certainly hoping that he fell, but with the dog being completely blind, he was only kept alive because the local children were kind enough to feed him."
Christmas survived because the kindness of local children who visited him regularly and tossed scraps of food down to feed him. They were drawn to the location by the sound of panicked barking, but the children weren’t sure exactly how long Christmas had been there before help finally arrived.

When animal rescuers Fahrudin Caki Bravo and Ratko Koblar heard about the dog, they rushed to the scene equipped with climbing gear. Bravo was lowered into the cramped cavity until he was able to secure the rope and an orange rescue vest around Christmas. Fellow rescuers then brought the two back to the surface.
"Surprisingly, the dog is in fairly good, physical condition," said Laura Simpson, "The blindness of course is from a pre-existing condition
Despite the long tragic ordeal, Bravo and Koblar described the dog as “sweet” and “forgiving.”

Christmas is now in foster care, but Simpson is confident that Christmas will find a permanent home soon and given the love and respect he deserves for the remainder of his life.
