We found a video of him espousing a microwave-free diet as a way of attaining better health, and we wanted to share it with you. In this day and age, it is possible for people to find evidence supporting virtually anything they want to believe about anything. The internet has been an amazing democratizer of ideas, but it has no sense of editorializing. Especially when it comes to science and health.

Now, we all know that the second a study is released that says something is bad to eat, there will be a diet that addresses the findings, followed by a rebuttal study, usually funded by a concerned industry group, that disproves the original study.
We just found a couple of doctors who want the whole world to stop using microwave ovens before they kill us all.
Doctor Hans Hertel has developed a theory that basically says that consuming food that was prepared by cooking it in a microwave oven is dangerous, even deadly.
According to him, the process by which a microwave oven cooks the food, essentially an electromagnetic wave that cycles the water molecules between positive and negative charges at an extremely high rate, also damages the nutritional value of the food.
Hertel’s study used a group of eight people who lived in a controlled environment for eight weeks and were fed raw food, conventionally cooked food, and microwaved food during the eight week long study. All participants ate all the diets, and had their blood drawn after every meal.
His allegation is that microwaved food destroys any nutritional value and becomes toxic. His eight week long, eight person study has determined that microwaved foods lower human immunization and cause cancer.
What’s more, as you can see in the video, his theory has some support from some people like Dr. Leonard Coldwell, who is a serious advocate for the raw food movement.
But wait, there is more: ninety eight percent of the households in America, and untold millions more across the globe, have and use microwaves regularly. If you take into consideration the eight week, eight patient study that involved mixing three separate diets among all members of the study, you might quickly decide to hold onto your microwave oven after all.
See, food science is not always accurate. From the idea that eggs were bad for us, to the idea that margarine was good for us, bad calls have been made many times when it comes to what we eat. That is why it is usually best to stick with common sense rather than fad diets and conspiracy theories. If your grandparents would have recognized it as food, then it is probably safe to eat, even if it was cooked with a microwave.
