13-Year-Old Says He Wants To Run Away From Home, Then Tells A Cop To Look Inside His Bedroom

Police officers get all kinds of calls to respond to over the radio. A lot of times, they have no idea what kind of a situation they are really walking into, until they arrive at the scene. They are brave for how they put their lives on the line for complete strangers every single day. Well one police officer in particular not only answered a plea for help, but went above and beyond to help the caller.
A lot of people think that police officers only receive calls for acts of violence. Yet, there is another side to the types of calls officers get that has nothing to do with these situations. Sometimes calls can come in where someone is just reaching out for advice, whether they need mental or psychological help, physical help, or in some cases just someone to talk to. This was semi the case for a 13-year-old boy who called 911, because he was in a situation that as a child, was having a hard time working through.
A South Carolina police officer responded to a 911 phone call from a 13-year-old boy. When the young teen spoke to the officer, he confessed he wanted to run away from home. Sumter Police Officer Gaetano Acerra knew there was more to the situation regarding the boy, Cameron Simmons, than just him wanting to run away for minuscule reasons. So, Officer Acerra chose to dig a little deeper.
It turns out, Cameron's mother was struggling to make ends meet. The reason being was she suddenly had to move her family across state lines to help care for a sick family member. After moving, things grew tight financially for Cameron's family. As a result, Cameron didn't have a bed to sleep on, and his room was without furniture. He was not a happy kid to say the least. So, that is when he decided he wanted to run away, which is what led him to call 911.
Upon learning about the situation, Officer Acerra took matters into his own hands. He first had a chat with Cameron about life, and tried to comfort Cameron, showing him all of the reasons why he shouldn't run away. After all, having a roof over Cameron's head was better than not having one at all. However, Officer Acerra didn't stop just there.
A few weeks later, Officer Acerra surprised Cameron and his mother. He ended up gathering furniture to give Cameron a fully furnished bedroom to try and turn his frown upside down. In his new bedroom set, Officer Acerra gifted Cameron a queen sized bed, TV, Wii game system, desk, and even a chair. He also went further to give Cameron's brother a bedroom set and an air hockey table too.
The kind gesture put Cameron (and his mother) in tears, as Officer Acerra gave him a reason to want to stay at home. This is an amazing story that has been shared numerous times around the world. Strangers have responded by donating additional items to the family in order to help out.
Officer Acerra changed Cameron's life. Now that he has a fully furnished bedroom, he is happy, and doesn't plan on attempting to run away anymore.
